Recently we came across this article by HGTV on the Top 15 Home Updates that will benefit you as a homeowner in the long run, and it got us thinking. Our home is our hideaway from the real world. It’s where we come home after a long and stressful day, kick off our shoes, pour a glass of wine and plop down on the couch with a good book or TV show. Our home is where we make memories- from getting married and buying your first house, to having a family, and building your own story. You want to keep your home in tip top shape so you can enjoy these moments in your life, rather than spending it on repairs for your home because you didn’t keep it up to date. These are the top home updates we pulled from their article in hopes we can help you make some updates on your home, so you can enjoy life every step of the way.
Bathroom Remodel
Depending on the age of your home, this may not be a necessary step to pay attention to. You may find that some of these home updates are too intricate for your home. That’s okay, you can modify them to fit your needs, wants, and budget. Your bathroom is a space that you want to be functional and comfortable. As a family, you might find yourself needing a few different things in a bathroom to be fully functional like a vanity for your spouse and an awesome shower for you. Essentials like a large bathtub, lots of counterspace, and storage are something that we feel is necessary in every bathroom, no matter the family. As far as the aesthetics of your bathroom, this will all depend on your style and what you want as far as colors of paint and style of cabinets and countertops.
Kitchen Remodel
Your kitchen is a place that you spend a lot of time in whether you are making your morning cup of coffee or you are entertaining for a family get together. When remodeling your kitchen or making any additions to you existing kitchen, think about things like the layout, your day to day functions, and how your kitchen could be more useful. Organize your kitchen in such a way that it will make daily tasks like cooking dinner much easier and hassle free. Same as with your bathroom, when it comes time to actually decorate your kitchen it will depend on your style and how the rest of your home is decorated. At the end of the day, make the kitchen your favorite place to be since you do spend the majority of your time here.
Remodel Your Basement or Attic
If you feel like you are outgrowing your home and need more space to spread your family out, consider remodeling your attic or your basement to be a new hang out space or bedroom. You can turn the space into a bar area with a pool table and seating for all your friends to hang out in or you can use the space a new bedroom for your teen or even just as a guest bedroom. However you choose to use the space, it would be a great addition to your home and cause the overall value of your home to increase.
Landscaping
Now that we have touched on a few of the ways you can renovate the inside of your home, let’s touch on the outside. The exterior of your home is the first thing people see, this is how they build a first impression. Make sure you paint is fresh and there are no chips or fading in color. You can also enhance your curb appeal by adding some planters on your patio and front and backyard landscaping.
