As temperatures rise and Spring goes into full bloom you are probably thinking of what your landscaping and gardening plans are for this year. Here at Rocky Mountain Forest Products, we want to help our community (not only in the realm of lumber). In this blog we will go over some of the biggest spring cleaning must do’s to prepare your yard for summer.
To get the most out of your yard this growing season and to achieve maximum growth of plants, flowers, and shrubs there are some cleaning must-do’s that you need to tackle.
By taking a weekend or two before to give your yard and overhaul before you start planting, you will be able to take full advantage of what it has to offer.
Spring Cleaning Must Do’s: Get Rid Of Debris
Over the Winter months trash and other debris has most likely built up under bushes, around planters, and against your fence. If you do not remove these items before planting new flowers and bushes it can cause disease, mold, and mildew.
Spring Cleaning Must Do’s: Till Flower Beds and Gardens
Before planting flowers or planting vegetables in your garden, till the ground and add new soil. This will clear out old plants and weeds and will give you optimal growth conditions.
Spring Cleaning Must Do’s: Clear Out Dead and Broken Branches
To thicken up small trees and shrubs clear out broken or dead branches. Removing fallen branches from around the base of your tree will allow more water and nutrients to get in. To remove broken or dead branches that are still on the tree use hedge clippers. This will allow new growth to take place which will make your trees and bushes fuller and more vibrant.
Spring Cleaning Must Do’s: Gutters – Gutters – Gutters
Cleaning out gutters is one of the most dreaded household chores. BUT it can save your thousands of dollars in damage. Clogged gutters can cause interior water damage and extensive roof rot. If your gutters are at a reasonable height you can accomplish this on your own or if they are not you can hire someone for a pretty reasonable rate.
Spring Cleaning Must Do’s: Check Hoses and Spickets
Unless you put hoses away back in the Fall and covered outdoor spickets you will want to check them for damage. Hoses and spickets can crack after freezing and thawing all Winter.
Spring Cleaning Must Do’s: Power Rake
Are you forever envious of lush deep green lawns and wonder how its done? The key is power raking in the Fall and the Spring. Power raking takes out all of the permanently dead grass that is smothering your healthy lawn. You can rent a power rake and do it yourself or you can hire a lawn service to do it as well.
Although most of these clean up must-dos are not the most enjoyable gardening and landscaping tasks they reap a huge return. A clean and airy yard will thrive during the growing season leaving you with bountiful vegetable and plants throughout the Summer and into Fall!
