Over the past few weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic has been growing and causing panic across cities, countries, and the entire planet. People are rushing to grocery stores to buy all the pasta, rice, canned foods, frozen pizzas, and toilet paper known to man. Along with preparing for the worst, everyone is disinfecting their each and every move, keeping their home as clean as possible and trying to stay away from big crowds or gatherings. One of the most important steps to take to avoid any contact with the virus is keeping your surroundings clean and disinfected. Your kitchen is the main place you cook and eat which means you need to keep it as clean as possible. Here are some precautions to take when it comes to your kitchen to help prevent you from getting the virus.

Go through and Clean Out Your Cupboards

This step isn’t absolutely necessary, but it helps keep your kitchen organized and clean. Go through and throw away or donate the unnecessary objects. While you are cleaning out drawers and cupboards take the extra minute to wipe down the surface of your cabinets with disinfectant wipes. Your cabinets rarely get wiped down which allows for germs to grow.

Appliances

Appliances like your fridge, microwave, stove, oven, and dishwasher are used daily or multiple times a day. It is usually smart to thoroughly wash these appliances every so often, but it is especially important during this time. Even though high heat temperatures normally kill most germs, you don’t want to take any chances. Clean all your appliances and disinfect them so you can be sure that your dishes and food are safe and clear of any exposure to germs.

Stock Up

There are a lot of people who are stockpiling and panicking about this pandemic which is going to cause stores and suppliers to run out of stock faster than they can fill the shelves. Make sure you have nonperishable foods like pasta, rice, beans, ramen, soups, frozen foods, and water as well as milk. Having all of these things can make sure you have food in the event that stores close down or shipments get canceled.

Make Sure You Have an Emergency Kit

This is more specific for households and is an important step that you should take as a precaution in case something goes very wrong and cities start to shut down. Put away some food, extra batteries, and chargers for your electronics, candles, blankets, and a first aid kid. Also, make sure you add all the essentials that are specific to your family and your needs. Also, make sure that you have emergency numbers and plans in place such as meeting places for your family.

Protect Your Surface

Once you disinfect your counters and make sure the surface is clean you can reseal the sealant to give your counter an extra layer of protection from exposure to germs. It is recommended that you reseal your counter at least twice a year so you might as well implement that into your routine of preparing for the virus. Once you reseal the counters, make sure you keep your counters clean and wiped down with a cleaner. This way when you cook and prepare food it is done in a clean environment.
