When looking into wood paneling for your home, there are certain things you want to look out for to ensure that you are buying the right product, installing it correctly, and making sure that you know how to take care of the wood properly. By making sure all these things are correct, you will save money from prevented damages and mistakes, as well as making sure your paneling looks great no matter where it is in your home. As a lumber distributor, we get a lot of questions regarding wooding paneling. With that in mind, we figured it’d be a good idea to talk about our most often received FAQs about wood paneling.

Wood paneling is a great way to accent any room by just paneling a single wall. You can, of course, add as much paneling to as many walls as you like. The trend currently is to have one accent wall being the main focal point of the room. This can be behind your bed, the main center wall in your living room, or in your bathroom behind the towel rack. Wood paneling is great because it is so versatile and you can potentially do just about anything you want with it.

The first thing you want to know when buying your paneling is whether the wood is faux or real. This will determine how you take care of it and how it will look on your wall. Some wood paneling is reclaimed, which means it is an aged wood that was taken from a deconstructed building or old structure. Faux reclaimed wood is artificially engineered to look rugged and aged, which means it is exposed to certain chemicals. If you do not want chemicals like this in your home, you want to stay away from faux reclaimed.

Ask your supplier where they get their wood. If it is faux reclaimed, it likely comes from a mill and goes through a patented process to achieve the desired look. These products will be more uniform and have little to no imperfections. If you are wanting true reclaimed wood, ask your supplier where they source their wood from and if they have the correct reclamation rights. You’ll want to know if this material was ethically sourced and the history behind it. Most true reclaimed wood paneling that we sell has already been cleaned up and denailed, leaving it virtually indistinguishable from faux reclaimed. There will be more pieces with unique character, but the boards have been remilled into a standard siding profile to provide an easy installation.

How Much Does Wood Paneling Cost?

How much does wood paneling cost? Honestly, we can’t give you a definite number because the prices vary depending on where the seller got the material if it’s true or faux, and the quantity in which you are buying it. Wood paneling is typically very affordable and isn’t usually very expensive. Just keep in mind that the price may fluctuate depending on certain circumstances.

When it comes to the place you are getting the materials from you, want to make sure that the company you are buying from is educated and knowledgeable about the product. When they are knowledgeable, the more you will know about the product and its condition before buying. You also want to make sure you’re getting a high quality product, which is hard to do when the supplier themselves don’t know anything about the product. Make sure they are giving you information that seems true.

You want to know the ordering process and delivery. Before you even order the materials from your chosen supplier, make sure to ask about the process. This way you can know when the materials will be delivered and how long it will take so you can plan for install accordingly and not be left in the dark. You also will want to know if there are any additional fees for delivery and install and if you need to set anything up for them or if it’s included. These are very vital things that you should know as a buyer.

Of course, before you buy any materials from anyone- make sure you have the right measurements and ideas for what you want in your house. It is always a good idea to buy a little extra product just in case there are any hiccups in install or in the product itself.

Once you have checked off all the boxes and have ordered your materials, you are ready to install your new accent wall. Wood paneling is great for giving a home a rustic but modern look, while also making the room cozy and giving your home the perfect ambiance!
