It’s 2020! Happy New Year! The new year is always full of resolutions, refresh, and new goals. They can be anything from working out more, changing careers or simply living a better lifestyle. The new year is the perfect time to get everything in your life back in order and ready for a fresh start, starting with your home. At the end of the year, your home will probably have some decluttering, organizing, and deep cleaning that is in need of being completed. But where do you start? Well, start with this basic checklist. Take this list of the basic necessities to start off the new year right and add to it or change it to fit your needs and wants. Happy New Year and Happy Cleaning!

ð       Do A Walk Through

Go through your house with a pad of paper and write down all of the things you notice need to be taken care of. Such as fixing up the paint, repairing holes in the wall, and taking off scuff marks. By making a list, you can keep track of everything you want to get done and you can make sure nothing is forgotten.

ð       Go Room By Room

Once you have the aesthetics taken care of and the general improvements, go through all of the places that hide clutter like closets, drawers, baskets, and cupboards. Throw away the things that you don’t use or no longer need and organize all of the things you are keeping in baskets or tubs. If you do end up using baskets or tubs, you can label them so you know what is in them when you’re searching for something.

ð       Kitchen

Your kitchen is the place that you are probably going to notice needs the most TLC. When you think about it, your kitchen is used every day and multiple times a day which means things get out of place, food gets pushed to the back of the pantry and cupboards need to be wiped down. Go through and check the expiration dates on food and make sure nothing is rotten. You could also make a list of the things that need to be replenished such as sugar, flour, rice, pasta, and other things that you use often. Especially after the holiday cooking and baking, your kitchen is probably looking and feeling a bit empty.

ð       Garage

Most people go through and clean out their garage in the spring, but it never hurts to do a little freshening up in the winter. A lot of the things in your garage probably haven’t been touched in a few months, which means they need some attention. Go through and see if there is anything you can get rid of and make sure your motorized objects, such as your lawnmower and weed whackers are up to date with maintenance and ready for spring. Believe it or not, it will be here before you know it!

ð       Budgeting

Now, this one is a little out there and doesn’t have much to do with the house itself, but it helps you feel productive and ready for the new year. Sit down with your family and make a budget for the year and try and stick to it. Budget for food, gas, vacations, family activities, and anything else you feel necessary for that specific year. This will not only help you keep track of your money, but it will help you save money and coast through the year with little to no trouble.

ð       Put Away All The Holiday Décor

The time you are going through and organizing your home is the perfect time to put all your holiday stuff away and clean up your home to feel fresh and clean.

The new year is the time to start new goals, accomplish your dreams and give yourself a fresh start. After the holidays and all the festivities, give yourself time to recuperate and refresh so you can start the new year off with a good start and feeling great! Use this list to give you inspiration and to kick off the new year with a bang! We wish you a happy and healthy New Year!
