Josh Wright of Wright Prime and Paint (WPP) always thought that owning a business was a far off dream, when he finally decided to take the plunge after college and go for it. Painting for another local company during college, Josh learned the ropes of the business before deciding that he wanted to make a career out of it. Thus, Wright Prime and Paint was born. We sat down with Josh to discuss the business of painting and siding in Colorado Springs and learned what his goals are for the upcoming years.

RMFP: Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Josh! We have been following your work on social media for a while and are excited to learn more about your company.

WPP: Absolutely- We are thankful to be featured in this blog series!

RMFP: So, tell us the story of how your business got started.

WPP: Well, I started the business about 2.5 years ago. I was going through college and really didn’t like what I was studying. I was working for another painting company through college, and owning my own business was always a far off dream and an item on my bucket list. I just needed a change of pace and the business really took off.

RMFP: That’s awesome! So what services do you specifically provide?

WPP: We do interior and exterior painting, siding and trim replacement and some deck projects.

RMFP: Do you have any employees or is it just yourself?

WPP: I have seasonal employees and am hoping to bring a couple on full-time this year. Our down time is usually January and February, so we’re excited to ramp up again for 2018.

RMFP: What do you like most about working in this industry?

WPP: I love creating something that is beautiful out of something that may not be that pleasing to the eye. I’m committed to adding value to a homeowner’s property if they choose to stay in their home or even sell it.

RMFP: What would you say makes your business unique?

WPP: Our customer service is killer. We call people back, we show up on time. Things that may seem like a given, but aren’t sometimes in this industry. I live by the saying, if you’re on time then you’re late- I always try to arrive a little early. I even offer $100 off a project if we are late from when we say we will be there- that’s how serious I am about it.

RMFP: That’s a great incentive for yourself! What would you want potential clients to know about your business?

WPP: I want them to know that we’re not trying to hustle them. We are truly dedicated to partnering with them to complete THEIR project. All of our estimates are all inclusive, as transparent as possible and we show them our labor costs. We just want it to be a good partnership for both parties involved and we want to do a good job.

RMFP: What kind of questions do potential clients usually ask you?

WPP: Well price is always one of the big ones. They are also curious about the timeline of when we can start and how long it will take. Usually our average project takes about 3 days to complete. Probably one of the most important questions though is what product they need us to use. It all depends on their needs and preferences for what they need out of their paint.

RMFP: Those are great. What are your goals for your business?

WPP: Growing. I don’t have aspirations to be a very large company, but having around 10 employees would be ideal. I want to provide a place where people can find a career and not just a seasonal job. I want to create a stable work environment so I can take care of my employees the right way with health care and benefits. I really just want to be around 10 years down the road and have clients come back to us if they have new projects around their home.

RMFP: Tell us about your favorite part about living in Colorado.

WPP: I’m a huge outdoors person and Colorado is the perfect place for that. I love hiking, camping and fishing. It’s also a great economy, which is perfect for a small business owner.
